There are four daily flights to Tambolaka, Sumba, with the earliest departing at 9:10 AM and the latest at 1:20 PM. The journey starts at sea level and climbs to the Rijewa mountain ranges at 500 metres. <br><br>The spectacular scenery from peak to sky is framed by teak and mahogany plantations and thick Sumba deciduous forests. The road stretches down to Waikabubak passing through traditional settlements, the Sewah waterfalls and offers a canvas of rich green verdure; structured rice fields to river valleys and thick dense forests eventually leading to a glimpse of the Indian Ocean. <br><br>The traditional market town of Waikabubak is situated 400 metres above sea level on a plateau and guests can often see water buffalo driven through the town on an evening drive. Our ability to control Malaria on the island continues to expand through the efforts of The Sumba Foundation, with clinics and education. <br><br>Mosquitos are most present during the rainy season than during the dry season. <br><br>At NIHI Sumba, our year-round ULV fogging is very effective against mosquito nuisance, and we offer repellents all over the property. We recommend wearing a light and loose long sleeved shirt and similar pants at night. Our rooms have mosquito nets and are safely sprayed daily by our housekeeping staff. For further peace of mind, please consult your physician about Malaria medication in advance. <br><br>Dr. Claus Bogh, Health Program Director for The Sumba Foundation, recommends two types of malaria prophylaxis:<br><br><strong>MALARONE<\/strong><br>One tablet a day for adults, starting two days before departure and continue for seven days after arriving home.
